Born and raised in Farmington, New Mexico, Dathan Weems is a fourth-generation attorney dedicated to seeking justice for those who have been wrongfully injured. Since beginning his legal career in 2002, Dathan has built a reputation as a tenacious trial attorney, specializing in cases involving trucking accidents, aviation accidents, medical malpractice, and wrongful death.

At Weems Hazen Law, Dathan is particularly committed to representing survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, holding both perpetrators and complicit parties accountable—regardless of the likelihood of financial recovery. His dedication extends beyond the courtroom, fighting for the rights of those who need it most.

Dathan’s passion for the law is also reflected in his role as an educator. He teaches mediation, negotiation, and client counseling at the University of New Mexico School of Law, ensuring that future attorneys are equipped with the skills to serve their clients effectively. He firmly believes that legal representation should encompass every avenue for conflict resolution, and he brings this philosophy to every case he handles.

A proud alumnus of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, Dathan has long been committed to the well-being of Albuquerque’s communities. In 2013, he founded Albuquerque Involved, a nonprofit organization that connects volunteers and philanthropists with local nonprofits through service and grants. His community involvement also includes serving on the board of Paws and Stripes, an organization that supports veterans dealing with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, as well as on the Mayor of Albuquerque’s Commission for Volunteerism and the New Mexico State Bar ADR Commission.

Outside of his legal and philanthropic work, Dathan finds his greatest joy in spending time with his family. Whether supporting his children’s endeavors, enjoying a movie night, or playing board games at home, family always comes first—except when New Mexico United has a home game, where you’ll find him in the stands proudly cheering, “Somos Unidos!”
