In the private sector, Taylor C. Hartley is the senior criminal defense attorney at Liberty Law, PLLC. He has a particularly strong focus as a trial attorney in criminal defense matters ranging from traffic to aggravated murder. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, he was ranked in the top 10 criminal defense attorneys of Utah.

From 2008 to 2015, he owned his own criminal defense law firm, The Advocate Attorney, employing attorneys and legal assistants while serving thousands of people.

Mr. Hartley is a published author since 2011, having written a nearly 200-page book on the morality of criminal defense from both a legal and religious perspective.

He also founded a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, the United Survivors with Epidermolysis Bullosa (USeb), and advised it for almost 10 years from 2007 as its Chief Legal Officer and later as President.

Additionally, Mr. Hartley served a couple years as the Advocacy Committee Chair of the United Nations Association of Utah (UNAU), which included in-person advocacy for the United Nations and its causes to legislators in Washington D.C.

In the public sector, Mr. Hartley worked as a judicial law clerk for a district court judge in Utah County early in his career as a lawyer and later as a public defender in Wasatch County. Representing those who could not afford private counsel was a work he enjoyed and found particularly meaningful.

In academia, Mr. Hartley has taught courses as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University: International Law and Introduction to American Law. He has taught other courses, both legal and non-legal, in multiple higher education institutions and high schools.
