Burt W. Newsome is the founder of Newsome Law, LLC, a Birmingham-area law firm focused on complex business litigation, banking law, and creditor-debtor matters. His career bridges the worlds of finance and law — beginning in the banking industry before transitioning to legal practice, giving him a dual perspective that distinguishes his approach to commercial disputes. Before law school, Newsome earned a B.S. in Finance from Troy University in 1988 and spent years in banking as an internal auditor and later in Special Assets, managing a large portfolio of troubled debt. He attended Birmingham School of Law and graduated with honors in 1998, going directly into private practice handling complex business banking credits requiring restructuring and liquidation — both inside and outside of bankruptcy court. Over the course of his career, Newsome has defended numerous lender liability lawsuits and represented clients across a broad range of commercial disputes. His background in finance means he approaches legal matters with a level of analytical rigor uncommon in general litigation practice — understanding the business realities behind the legal issues, not just the law itself.
