Darrell G. Griffin Jr. is a California criminal defense attorney with a career built on experience from both sides of the courtroom. Before entering private practice, he served as a Deputy District Attorney in Stanislaus County, where he was promoted to Department Head handling felony cases — managing an average caseload of 350 cases per year, nearly 300 preliminary hearings, multiple trials, and review of approximately 500 cases annually for filing decisions. He was later assigned eight homicide cases, including on-scene evaluation at active homicide investigations. Earlier in his career, Mr. Griffin worked as a Public Defender in Calaveras County, handling juvenile dependency and delinquency matters, conservatorships, and DUI trials. During law school he worked in the San Joaquin District Attorney's Office drafting motions and reviewing submissions, and after graduating he gained civil litigation experience before moving into criminal practice full time. His roots in the downtown legal community — including years as a local small business owner adjacent to the courthouse — gave him strong ties to the attorneys and institutions he now navigates on behalf of clients. Today, Griffin Legal Defense focuses exclusively on criminal defense, including private DUI cases and serious felonies through the public defender panel. In his first year of private practice he resolved over 150 cases. He has been tentatively accepted to a homicide panel — a recognition of the breadth of his dual-track experience and the trust placed in him by the courts.
