Freedom Law North Carolina

Rebecca J. Lawrence's path to founding Freedom Law North Carolina was not the conventional one. She completed a master's degree in criminology and criminal justice at the University of Memphis — focusing her graduate research on the generational transmission of domestic violence — before attending law school at the Charlotte School of Law, where she graduated cum laude. Her plans were to practice law for a time before returning to the FBI, where she had interned during law school. She never left the law. What she found instead was a gap between how legal services were traditionally delivered and what clients actually needed — and the conviction that she could close it. Freedom Law North Carolina focuses primarily on family law and criminal defense. The family law practice covers the full range of North Carolina matrimonial matters: absolute divorce, equitable distribution, child custody and support, alimony, post-separation support, domestic violence, military divorces, adoptions, and mediation. Lawrence is admitted to the North Carolina and Hawaii bars and brings to every engagement the research orientation of a graduate-trained criminologist — methodical, evidence-focused, and attentive to the dynamics that make family law cases as emotionally complex as they are legally intricate. She was recognized as a SuperLawyers Rising Star in 2021 and named an Elite Lawyer that same year. The practice's Charlotte office serves clients across the greater Mecklenburg County region.
