Lauren F. Riesenfeld built her practice on an insight that most family law attorneys cannot claim: she spent years in accounting before law school, which means that when a divorce involves business valuations, tax implications, and complex asset structures — the situations most likely to generate enormous expense through third-party forensic accountants — she can navigate that territory herself. It is a practical advantage that compounds over the course of a case, and it shapes how she evaluates settlements, advises clients, and prepares for litigation from the earliest stages of a matter. Riesenfeld earned her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University and completed additional studies in International Criminal Law through the University of San Diego's Barcelona program — a background that informs her representation of clients in criminal matters as well as the full spectrum of matrimonial and family law. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association's Family Law Chapter, the Suffolk and Nassau County Bar Associations, the National Association of Divorce Professionals, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She has been recognized by Avvo's Client Choice Award in both 2017 and 2018, named among the top ten female family law attorneys in 2017 by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys, and recognized for excellence in family and divorce law in 2020 and 2021. What distinguishes the practice, beyond the credentials, is the model. Riesenfeld describes it as a concierge approach: every client works directly with her, from intake through resolution, without being passed to an associate or paralegal. In a field where that kind of continuity is increasingly rare, and where the stakes — custody, property, support, protection orders — are as personal as any legal matter can be, it is not a minor thing. The practice accepts new clients by appointment at its Plainview office.
